StoriTold helps you record your life story — your written answers, voice recordings, and photos — to preserve for your family. We know this is some of the most personal data a person can create, and protecting it is the entire point of the product. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account information: your email address and authentication credentials. Your password is stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider — we never see it.
- Your journal content: the written answers, voice recordings (audio), and photos you add to your entries, along with related details such as the theme, date, and any AI follow-up questions and your answers to them.
Collected automatically
- Basic technical and diagnostic data needed to run the app reliably (app version, device type, crash logs, timestamps), kept to the minimum needed to operate and improve the service.
We do not collect your contacts, location, or browsing activity, and we do not use advertising trackers.
2. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account;
- To store your entries and sync them privately across your devices;
- To generate thoughtful AI follow-up questions based on your answers (see Section 3);
- To provide features you request, such as exporting or printing your entries;
- To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the service;
- To communicate with you about your account or important changes.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your journal content to show you ads.
3. AI processing
To make the experience feel like a thoughtful interviewer, StoriTold uses an AI service to read an answer you just wrote and suggest one relevant follow-up question. To do this, the text of that answer is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (the Claude API), over an encrypted connection, which returns a suggested question.
- We send only the text needed to generate the follow-up — not your whole journal.
- Under our agreement with our AI provider, this text is not used to train their models.
- Your voice recordings and photos are not sent to the AI provider.
AI follow-ups are an optional, premium feature; you can use StoriTold without them.
4. How your data is stored and protected
- Your content is stored with our infrastructure provider, Supabase, and transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
- Access is governed by row-level security: our systems are configured so that only your authenticated account can read or write your entries, recordings, and photos. Other users cannot access your content.
- Voice and photo files are stored in a private area, accessible only through short-lived, signed links issued to your authenticated session.
No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information.
5. Sharing and disclosure
We share your information only:
- With service providers who help us run StoriTold (our hosting/database provider Supabase, our AI provider Anthropic, and, if you choose to print a book, our print partner), strictly to perform services for us;
- If required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the service;
- In a business transfer (e.g., merger or acquisition), in which case we will notify you and this policy will continue to apply.
6. Your rights and choices
- Access and read all of your entries in the app at any time;
- Edit or delete any entry;
- Export your entries for safekeeping or printing;
- Delete your account and associated content — email privacy@storitold.com and we will delete your content within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to comply with law.
Depending on where you live (e.g., the EU/UK or California), you may have additional rights such as data portability or the right to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise any right.
7. Preserving your legacy
StoriTold is built so your stories can outlive you. Today, your account and content are controlled by you. We are developing a legacy/heir-access feature so you can designate who may receive or access your entries in the future. Until then, please keep your own exported copy, and contact us with questions about long-term access.
8. Children’s privacy
StoriTold is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you record stories that mention your children or family members, that content is yours, and you are responsible for what you choose to include.
9. Data retention
We keep your content for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. When you delete an entry or your account, we delete the associated content as described in Section 6.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as StoriTold evolves. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email and update the “Last updated” date above.
